Master's level graduates with a classical studies background will find that their educational background makes them excellent candidates for careers as government officials with a degree in political science, or as archeologists, educators, anthropologists, sociologists and researchers with a degree in the historical aspects of classical studies. Graduates of associates and bachelor level training will find employment as research assistants or administrative aides, or may use this as an entry level degree for a career in education going forward with additional training to obtain teaching credentials at the various levels.
The basis of a degree in classical studies is the understanding and knowledge about ancient civilizations and how they evolved and developed into the modern civilization that we now inhabit. Students study the Roman and Greek civilizations as well as the settlement of various parts of the world and the impact of cultures upon each other from a historical perspective. Studies may include literature, sociology, anthropology and even sociology and geography. The deep understanding of the past and in the development of trends will give graduates the ability to monitor and even hypothesis about current trends in civilization and the development of cultures. Classical studies will focus on religion, philosophy and intellectual concepts of Greek and Roman culture and civilization and how they are still in use today.
Students with a keen interest in the development of modern traditions, beliefs, philosophies and trends will find that the classical studies program provides information on all these areas. Students will complete different research projects and assignments to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts taught in the various classes. In addition information and classes will be structured to build upon prior knowledge, allowing students to delve deeper into the historical roots of modern cultures.
