Distance Learning & Online Chemical Engineering Degree Programs
Programs including chemical engineering are designed to teach the graduate more than just the basic chemical sciences, rather they teach the student a logical and structured way to approach issues, research and developments within the chemical engineering field. Classes will include specific advanced level chemistry issues such as chemical thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat and mass transfer as well as stability factors, chemical composition and the understanding of various chemical reactions and processes used in manufacturing, production and industry.
In addition to the basic and advanced level chemical engineering classes students will also learn the principles of engineering. This may include research and development, verification and validation measures, technology in engineering, advanced mathematically classes, problem solving, effective communication, leadership, team building and project coordination and management. Students may also have specialized courses in working with various hazardous reactions or properties as well as regulatory, legal and safety issues within manufacturing and production facilities that utilize chemical reactions. The goal of the bachelor level of chemical engineering is to equip students to compete in the field in entry-level and support type positions until they gain practical experience or choose to continue on with their engineering degree.
For most advance level positions or to work as a project manager, project coordinator, engineering manager or consultant or specialist a master's level engineering degree is a requirement. Most engineers with a masters degree will continue on to get their licensure or certification as professional engineers in any one of the many disciplines of engineering, including chemical engineering. Advanced level course focus more on the use of technology, advanced mathematical calculations and theories and the use of higher level strategies and practical use of concepts. All engineering degrees rely heavily on the use of advanced technology in software and computer programs in the design and evaluation processes.
