Distance Learning & Online Aerospace Engineering Degree Programs
One of the foremost areas of technology use and innovation and design is the area of aerospace engineering. A professional in this field may work for large agencies such as NASA or with small, private aerospace companies that are developing new and ultra-modern planes, spacecraft or components for air or space travel. Many aerospace engineering programs are offered at a bachelor level and while this is a great introduction to the field it is generally considered advisable to move through to at least a master level degree to be able to work in a wider range of positions within the industry.
Aerospace engineers may have degrees in aeronautics or mechanical engineering in conjunction with the aerospace degree. They may work on computer programs designing and developing new parts, on research projects to improve or redesign existing parts or on top secret cutting edge projects using the latest in designs, equipment and materials. Most aerospace engineers will have extensive experience using a variety of applicable software programs such as computer aided drawing (CAD) as well as other specialized programs to allow them to design and test designs and new ideas. Engineers are often called in to troubleshoot design flaws, production issues or performance problems with the final product.
As with all engineering programs aerospace engineers have a rigorous mathematical component as well as specific courses on aeronautics, flight, physics and other concepts specific to flying. Engineers learn to conceptualize, troubleshoot, evaluate and analysis based on mathematical formulations, calculations and verifications. In addition engineers must be creative and able to visualize various aspects of production or development to assess any potential programs. Courses will develop these skills as well as teach leadership and communication skills for team work. Often engineers will be used as project coordinators or project managers within the aerospace industry.
