Graduates of the various types of accounting programs typically find work as bookkeepers, accountants, financial advisors, investment professionals or others involved in the financial aspects of business and business management. Many graduates of master and bachelor level programs in accounting will continue on with their education to earn their CPA (certified public accountant), or as Certified Management Accountants or Certified Internal Auditors. Just as many may choose to work in field of tax preparation, banking or even as financial advisors or investment professionals. Many business majors take a minor or complimentary program in accounting so they are able to understand and interpret complex financial reporting and planning. Some accounting graduates may also choose to work as accounting assistants to gain practical experience during and after graduation. Typically these individuals will still be qualified for promotions and even management positions after they have c! ompleted actual work experience within the company or department.
Classes in accounting include basic accounting and advanced principles, financial report preparation, accounting ethics and legal regulations, computer software in accounting, security, auditing, financial planning and all other aspects of financial management. Classes will allow students to use actual examples and scenarios to apply the knowledge learned in the structured lesson to actual case studies. Students will also learn the various computer accounting programs as well as issues dealing with security and transferal of information electronically. Class assignments may also include advanced calculations, complex and multi-company or department accounting, payroll, taxation and management of assistants and support staff.
Graduates of an accounting program may also complete classes on running their own business or management of businesses. With the wide variety of career opportunities for graduates to choose from it is possible to customize classes and training to prepare for the particular aspect of accounting that is of interest.
