The Master's degree in mathematics education is designed to provide those teachers that wish to teach mathematics at more advanced levels with the skills they need. The course may be completed by experienced or new teachers, often it is completed by new teachers in conjunction with their teaching degree to be able to become certified as a specialist in mathematics. The program is designed to equip students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to work in either an elementary or middle school upon graduation and certification.
The program will teach mathematics methodology courses, best teaching practices in math, advance theoretical concepts and well as how to work with both special needs children and those that are considered gifted or talented. Various new technologies in teaching math as well as how they fit into the curriculum will also be a key component of the program.
