The role of a network administrator is to monitor, evaluate and ensure the proper functioning of networks and systems within businesses. Network administrators may also manage and monitor e-commerce transactions, web design and hosting, as well as information systems and databases. The network administrator also is involved in the management of the IT departments and works to coordinate services, train staff and evaluate the functioning and performance of the various systems and networks within the LAN or WAN.
The Bachelor of Science in information technology with a focus as a network administrator will include courses on topics such as networking security, online e-commerce transactions and risk analysis, database management and design, programming and operating systems used in computer systems in business. Students completing the program will be certified as MCSA or a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator.
