There are many components to consider when deciding on a criminal justice degree program. This program will teach students the fundamentals needed in crime scene investigation, and will also teach them about victim’s rights, pretrial policing, and working in corrections. Having thorough knowledge of criminal law will prepare students for careers in many areas of criminal justice including juvenile justice, parole officers, and correctional treatment specialists.
Courses students will have to complete include victimology, criminology, criminal procedures, cyber law, corrections, psychology, and computer applications. Students will also learn more about problem solving and critical thinking and how to use these skills on the job. Since there are many types of crime, understanding how to secure crime scenes, interviewing witnesses and others, gathering evidence, and analyzing it are essential to a students success in law enforcement and in other fields associated with law enforcement.
