Liberty University is committed to supplying its students with a high quality education within a distinctly Christian environment. The school aims to prepare students for success in academic and professional endeavors while integrating their studies with spiritual and personal growth through the aid of faculty and fellow students.

Liberty University was founded in 1971 as the Lynchburg Baptist College by evangelist Jerry Falwell. It changed its name to Liberty University in 1985. The College was created with the ideal of enrolling as many students as other traditionally religious colleges such as Brigham Young and Notre Dame. With enrollment of over 20,000 students, the university is on pace to accomplish its goals. The main campus of the university is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, but the school also has an active distance learning program.

Liberty is different than many other colleges in that it has a strict fundamentalist religious foundation. Students on campus are required to attend convocation to hear speakers from the conservative community, and are required to meet a strict code of conduct that does not allow dancing, violating curfew, drinking, smoking or entering the room of someone of the opposite sex. The school is ranked in the top ten conservative colleges by the Princeton Review, and it is an academically competitive school.

Online courses at Liberty give students the same quality, faith-based education as on campus courses with added flexibility to do coursework whenever it’s most convenient. 8 week long courses can also help students to accelerate the completion of their degrees. Students can enroll in over 40 different online degree programs including Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology, Nursing, Religion and more.
