Fielding Graduate University

Fielding Graduate University aims to prepare its students to serve their communities and employers as professionals by offering Master's and Doctoral programs that involve them in collaborative learning and continuing professional education. They work to create a learning model which integrates theory, research, and values with high integrity practice and scholarship in a variety of fields. Additionally, they wish to help maintain the well-being and success of students as they work towards their goals and embody values like academic excellence, integrity, and support of diversity.

Fielding was founded in Santa Barbara, California, in 1974 by Frederic Hudson, Hallock Hoffman, and Renata Tesch. The school was designed to serve mid-career professionals who wanted to work towards advanced degrees but because of other obligations could not attend traditional schools. The school offers degrees in three fields: Psychology, Human and Organization Development, and Educational Leadership and Change.

The school’s curriculum was designed around older students whom the founders recognized would learn and retain knowledge in a different way than younger students. Today the school still uses these adapted methods of learning, and classes are taught in a way that encourages students not to just sit passively and learn but instead to be task-oriented, self-directed, and competent.

Students wishing to work towards their graduate degrees online will find a wide variety of choices at Fielding. Fielding offers degrees programs for students interested in pursuing Master’s or Doctorate level degrees in Psychology, Education, and Human Development. These online programs provide a flexible way for busy adults to gain higher education without sacrificing their current lifestyle. Concentrations include Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology, Neuropsychology, Information Knowledge and Knowledge Organizations, Media Studies, and more.
